Caracalla, 198-217. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 31 mm, 20.17 g, 12 h), Rome, 210-213. M AVREL ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM BRIT Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla to right, seen from behind. Rev. SECVRITATI PERPETVAE / S C Securitas seated right on throne, resting her head on her right hand and holding scepter in her left; to right, altar. BMC 248 var. (differing bust type). Cohen 576 corr. (omits PIVS on the obverse in error). RIC 512a. A bold and impressive piece with an attractive dark patina. Thin flan crack and with minor smoothing, otherwise, extremely fine.
